Back in the day, liquor makers in the Smoky Mountains would sneak their moonshine down the mountain by hiding it on trains to avoid patrols of authorities looking for hooch on the back roads of East Tennessee. These trains stopped between Pigeon Forge and Sevierville near the crossing of Latitude 35 North where they would then be unloaded or continue on to another destination.
